Breakfast, the most important meal of the day and certainly one of the most important factors for hotels and B&Bs, with many priding it as one of their main selling points. So, how do you stand out in a world of beans on toast and omelettes?

In this blog posts, we’ll be running through our favourite gourmet breakfast recipes – along with a few more exotic ideas to get your guests excited.

American Style Pancakes

Commonplace in the states, these delicious pancakes are rarely seen on menus here in the UK. They’re easy to make, can be prepared in advance, taste wonderful and are the perfect way to start the day – what’s not to love?

  1. Sift flour, baking powder, salt and caster sugar into a large bowl.
  2. Whisk together, eggs, milk and melted butter.
  3. Combine both mixtures and beat until you have a smooth batter.
  4. Add a ladle of batter to a hot frying pan, cook until both sides are golden brown.

The beauty of these pancakes is they can be served with almost anything, fresh fruit and yoghurt, classic maple syrup and bacon, peanut butter and chopped nuts – the possibilities are endless, so have fun with it.

  1. Pile up 5 slices of bread of your choice – tiger bread tastes great for this recipe.
  2. Use a pastry cutter to cut a round hole in the middle of 3 of the slices of bread.
  3. Butter each slice of bread gently to bind them together. Keep the 3 slices with holes on top of the pile.
  4. Fill the hole with grated Monteray Jack Cheese, add diced bacon, an egg and finally sprinkle with more cheese.
  5. Bake for 10 minutes or until cheese is melted and eggs are set.

The Ultimate Full English Breakfast

Every hotel offers up a full English, so it’s important for yours to stand out – here’s our recipe selection for the ‘ultimate’ full English breakfast.

Bacon – Good bacon is the heart of any English breakfast. Ensure you use high quality bacon and asks your guests how they’d like it cooked.

Sausages –  Again, quality is key here. Offering a range of different sausages (including veggie ones!) helps you cater for all your guests.

Eggs – Always use free range! Make sure you give guests the option of poached, scrambled or fried. Extra points for offering eggy bread.

Fried Potatoes – Fried or sautéed potatoes are delicious and so underused. Simply cut potatoes into rough chunks, fry in olive oil until golden brown, season and serve.

Black Pudding – Not for everyone, be sure to have black pudding as an ‘optional extra’, this will keep guests happy and reduce food waste.

Beans – Don’t slop them on the plate, serve in a separate ramekin to avoid a flood of bean juice.

Toast – Use a good quality loaf, our Sherston Thick Sliced bread from Hobbs House makes the best toast in the world!

Mushrooms – Button mushrooms are ideal for a full English, you can cook these alongside your fried potatoes.

  • Pastries – Mini croissants, Danish whirls and tarts can all be purchased frozen and cooked when needed for a bakery fresh taste.
  • Cheeses and meats – Cold hams, salamis, meats and cheeses can be a fantastic alternative for those that don’t want a full breakfast – why not browse our extensive range of cheeses for inspiration.
  • Yoghurts and purees – Greek yoghurt is perfect for If fresh fruit stretches your budget, opt for frozen purees instead – they can be refrigerated to stay fresh for longer.
